In a highly unusual collaboration, computer scientist Chenyang Lu (left) and physician Tom Bailey (right) are developing a distributed sensor network that would continuously monitor the vital signs of hospitalized patients not in the ICU, a level of care not otherwise available. According to Lu, wireless sensors, sometimes called body sensors, will soon improve care for patients with a variety of medical conditions, from diabetes to Alzheimers.
