Secondary Visual Area (IMAGE) University of California - San Francisco Caption In contrast to the dogma that all visual areas in the cerebral cortex get their inputs from primary visual cortex (V1), the new study shows that postrhinal cortex (POR) gets information about moving objects via a parallel visual pathway from an evolutionarily ancient brainstem area called superior colliculus. (The two parallel visual pathways are routed through distinct relay stations in a brain structure called the thalamus: dLGN for V1 and the Pulvinar for POR.)
