Mareike Klinger-Strobel microscopes biofilms stained with two fluorescent dyes. The biofilms were also treated with nanoparticles, which are blue-fluorescent by coupling to a special dye. It is easy to see that the nanoparticles penetrate into the biofilm because they can be found in the deep biofilm layers.
