Audiotape Fragility on Playback

A magnetic audiotape might show no signs of distress until put on a player, where one with sticky-shed syndrome can fall apart during playback. Using an ATR FTIR instrument (right), the team is developing an algorithm to readily assess the condition of a given tape.
