Figure 3 shows how changes in life expectancy contributed to the gap between the U.S. and peer countries. For example, figure 2 shows that life expectancy for U.S. women increased by 0.21 years in 2010-18, but because life expectancy in women in the peer countries increased even more (0.98 years), the gap increased by 0.77 years (figure 3).
