Evolutionary History of Pteropods

The pteropods originated in the Early Cretaceous (pink dot). All the main pteropod lineages, including three sea butterfly groups and the sea angels, survived two major planet-wide crises, an asteroid impact around 66 million years ago and a period of global warming and ocean acidification around 55.5 million years ago.
