Cough production in mice inoculated with various bacterial components. The number of coughs was counted, and the sum of coughs from days 6 to 14 is shown. The inoculated preparations were as follows: cell lysates from B. pertussis (lysate), pertussis toxin (PTx), virulence associated gene 8 (Vag8), and lipooligosaccharide (LOS).
