Shark Bite 'Detectives' Using Genetics to Identify Species (IMAGE)

Florida Museum scientist Lei Yang extracted and analyzed DNA from a tooth fragment that had been embedded in a man's foot since 1994 to identify a blacktip shark as responsible for the bite. Scientists in the Florida Program for Shark Research are increasingly using genetic evidence to identify shark species responsible for bites.
