This 2-D ES plot of a diamond NV center shows absorption (x-axis) and emission (y-axis) at 5 picoseconds. The squarish plot shape arises from the redistribution of energy among the vibrations of the system. From such 2-D plots, researcher can extract different dynamic contributions, including quantum mechanical coherences.
