A 3-D topographic surface map of the base of a fired 9 mm bullet is shown. This visualization highlights the grooves imparted on the bullet by the barrel of the gun that fired it. These 3-D surface maps produce more detailed comparison data than the two-dimensional images that are traditionally used to match bullets.
