Hackberry petiole gall psyllid just after emerging from the gall on a hackberry. The leaf is yellow because it is autumn. The insect is only 3 to 4 millimeters long. The insect's only endosymbiotic bacteria, Carsonella ruddii, has the smallest cellular genome known.
