The Plant Cell Nuclear Lamina Is Built with a Web of Crowded Nuclei Proteins (IMAGE)
Caption
These images of three plant cell nuclei show the weblike network of proteins that make up the nuclear lamina, which supports the shape of the nucleus from the inside. Researchers at the University of Tokyo have confirmed that crowded nuclei proteins (CRWN1-3) support the oval shape of plant cell nuclei and also have a role in gene regulation. These images were produced with stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy, a super-resolution technique. Scale bars = 5 micrometers (top) and 1 micrometer (bottom).
