Antibodies Recognize (IMAGE) Osaka University Caption Upper: Antibodies recognize and bind to their specific target on the surface of cells. In complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC), complement binds to antibodies and forms a membrane attack complex (MAC). The MAC disrupts the cell membrane and induces cell death. Lower: Induction of Th1 or Th2 response with adjuvants. Nucleic acid adjuvants induce Th1 cell-mediated immune response (cytotoxicity) and stimulate the production of mouse IgG2. Aluminum adjuvants induce Th2 humoral immune response (neutralization) and stimulate the production of mouse IgG1.
