The flexible arm of the octopus has virtually an infinite number of degrees of freedom, allowing a repertoire of movements unmatched by even the human arm. This flexibility poses a severe challenge for its motor control system. Remarkably, the octopus solves this problem, when fetching an object to its mouth, by configuring its arm and controlling its motion in a manner similar to that of humans.
