Autonomous Robot Close-up (IMAGE) University of Southern Denmark Caption This is a close up of the prototype being taken onboard after end mission. The yellow squares provide buoyancy to the instrument after ballast release, while the orange battery provides power for motors, sensors and the preprogrammed computer that operate the instrument at the seabed. The first generation of the instrument has given important, novel insight on the biogeochemical function of the deepest sediments on Earth and has given valuable experience for new and more sophisticated instruments to be developed during the project.
