M74 Galaxy Prior to the Explosion of SN 2013ej (IMAGE)

A giant star that exploded 30 million years ago was one of the closest to Earth in recent years to go supernova, say astrophysicists at Southern Methodist University, Dallas. It was visible as a point of light in the night sky. This image of Supernova 2013ej shows the star just prior to explosion.
