Neuroendocrine tumors, including small cell lung cancer, are not highly visible to immune cells due to a lack of surface proteins called NKG2DL. A UT Southwestern study found that HDAC inhibitor drugs allow these proteins to be produced, causing tumor cells to be recognized and targeted by immune cells.
