Zonated markers (Reg3g, red; Apoc3, green; Pmp22, purple) are enriched in different parts of the intestinal villus (left panel). Loss of BMP signaling (right panel) disturbs zonated gene expression: bottom villus markers increase at the expense of top villus markers. Markers are stained using fluorescent in situ hybridization.
