Cholesterol molecules on the surface of certain brain cells called astrocytes may facilitate production of Alzheimer's-associated plaques, according to research in PNAS from Scott Hansen, PhD, associate professor of molecular medicine at Scripps Research in Jupiter, Florida. Hansen's graduate student, Hao Wang, right, is the paper's first author.
