Pink Bollworm (IMAGE) U.S. National Science Foundation Caption A caterpillar of pink bollworm, a global pest that evolved resistance to a type of genetically modified (GMO) cotton in India, emerges after devouring a boll of cotton. In Arizona, farmers have planted refuges of conventional cotton, along with GMO cotton. This has reduced selection for evolutionary resistance in the pink bollworm.
