LUX Installation (IMAGE) DOE/Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Caption Here is a view of the LUX detector during assembly. LUX is installed at the center of a 72,000 gallon tank filled with deionized water. The water, along with photomultiplier tubes lining the tank, act together as a veto system to rule out false-positive signals.
