Die-off along Ditches, Cape Cod Salt Marsh (IMAGE)
Caption
Ditches at sites with heavy recreational fishing pressure are denuded by Sesarma herbivory and widen over time through erosion and continued herbivory. Ditches at this site were dug in the 1930s at <0.5m wide, but are now >5m in many areas. Ditches at nearby die-off sites on Cape Cod have expanded to >30m where herbivory is intense.
