Caption

Migration flows indicate a bleeding out of rural areas in Sweden. We plot net migration (inward movers-outbound movers) as a percentage of the local working-age population during 1990-2012. The most populated areas receive net inflows of migrants, whereas population sizes in smaller places are in constant decline. Credit: Statistics Sweden, own calculations.
