Sensitivity of Bacterial Biosensors Graphic (IMAGE)
Caption
The phosphorylation of proteins in the signaling pathways of cells can be manipulated by mutations to a histidine kinase protein (upper left) and a response regulator protein (lower right). This can be used to dial up or down the sensitivity of bacterial biosensors, according to Rice University scientists.
