Kelly Sutherland of the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology at the University of Oregon studies how gelatinous organisms, mostly jellyfish, interact with the fluid around them. She and colleagues have documented how the jellyfish Nanomia bijuga coordinates the firing of swimming jets located on individual units of the animal to more rapidly.
