Increasing Resolution in Genome Folding Heatmaps (IMAGE)
Caption
When the same linear DNA sequence is divided into different sized segments to analyze its 3-D conformation, different chromatin folding patterns emerge. In this image, the same region around the Sox2 gene is divided into 3, 9, 30, and ~250 bins. The Penn researchers' approach allows us to divide this region into ~250 bins, thus providing a relatively 'high resolution' snapshot of the 3-D conformation of the DNA.
