Sampling The Deccan Traps To Show That Volcanoes Helped Kill The Dinosaurs (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers collect a sample from a very thin sediment horizon between two lava flows. By sampling the layers between layers of the Deccan Traps flood basalt, a team of researchers led by Princeton University's Blair Schoene and Gerta Keller found that the Deccan Traps erupted in four distinct pulses, one of which began just before the mass extinction that killed the (non-avian) dinosaurs.
