Attosecond Absorption Spectroscopy (IMAGE) DOE/Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Caption Femtosecond-scale pulses were fired to ionize krypton atoms (wide beam). Separately created attosecond-scale pulses (narrow beam) were absorbed by the krypton atoms. Spectroscopy mapped the precise timing of the oscillation between quantum states thus created.
