Proposed Fully Implantable Cochlear Implant System (IMAGE)
Caption
This shows a cross-section of human head showing proposed cochlear implant system that would restore hearing to deaf people without requiring them to wear a microphone or other electronics externally. In this system, the speech processor and radio transmitter are implanted under the skin of the skull, and a new kind of implanted microphone is surgically attached to the umbo, where the eardrum meets the tiny hearing bones.
