Ph.D. student Nassir Mokarram (left) holds a hollow polymeric nerve guide used to study re-growth of peripheral nerve cells. The nerve guide released interleukin 4 (IL-4) which enhanced the growth of peripheral nerve cells by altering activity of the macrophage cells.
