Graduate student Ian Kinstlinger prepares the selective laser sintering system in the Miller bioengineering lab at Rice University. Kinstlinger uses the system to 3D-print blood vessel templates from powdered sugar. The templates allow bioengineers to make lab-grown tissues that have sufficient blood flow to sustain densely packed cells.
