Cells (IMAGE) Johns Hopkins Medicine Caption In normal cells (top panels), cilia decapitation (minute 3:55) usually occurs while cells are in the quiescent state (yellow nuclei) before they transition into mitosis (dark nuclei, minute 7:50). When cilia are prevented from forming "actin wires" (bottom panels), they are also unable to decapitate, causing their cells to transition more slowly from quiescence to mitosis.
