Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have found that a particular aging-related mechanism contributes to some seemingly unrelated diseases, and the study raises the possibility that some drugs prescribed to lower cholesterol also may turn out to be effective treatments for the blinding eye disease macular degeneration.
