Emily Palmer, a Johns Hopkins undergraduate majoring in mechanical engineering, has been using high-speed video cameras to study the remarkable jumping ability of spider crickets, like the one in her palm. At right is Rajat Mittal, a professor of mechanical engineering, who is supervising the research, which could lead to a new type of tiny jumping robots.
