Ecologists Capture Returning Foragers (IMAGE) University of California - San Diego Caption Invasive yellowjacket wasps feed an astonishing array of prey to their larvae. By sequencing DNA isolated from bits of food carried by returning foragers, ecologists created a comprehensive catalog of the wasps' diet. Native spiders and insects, and even scavenged meat from geckos and birds such as shearwater were identified.
