Logs about 12 feet long litter the beach and tsunami waves have pushed them farther inland on the coastal plain. In the summer of 2006, before the tsunami, the debris was only found on the beach. (Sarychev Peak, seen smoldering in the background, is the volcano photographed earlier this year in mid-eruption from the International Space Station.)
