Extinct Amphibians Almost Survived to Present Day (IMAGE)

Albanerpetontids are the fourth main group of amphibians, joining frogs, salamanders and caecilians. But they vanished about 2 million years ago. New fossils, such as the skull shown in this X-ray image, suggest these animals were sit-and-wait predators, not burrowers as previously thought.
