Subsea Carbon Dioxide-Rich Pools (IMAGE) Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Caption An international team of scientists using a sophisticated suite of undersea vehicles in the Southern Aegean Sea located and characterized an interconnected series of meandering, iridescent white subsea pools containing high concentrations of carbon dioxide. The pools may hold answers to questions related to deep-sea carbon storage as well as provide a means of monitoring the volcano for future eruptions.
