Hutia Bones Recovered from Ancient Trash Heaps

These hutia bones were excavated from an ancient trash heap on the Turks and Caicos Islands, evidence that early inhabitants ate the rodents. A previous study found that certain hutia populations ate crops, suggesting indigenous people may have managed them.
