Rice materials scientist Emilie Ringe inserts a sample in the university's Titan Themis scanning/transmission electron microscope. Ringe and her colleagues discovered they could use an electron beam to reconfigure the contents of a sealed nanoparticle, adjusting its plasmonic properties in the process.
