Stem cell division (IMAGE)
Caption
Imagery captured with spinning-disk confocal microscopy at the University of Oregon shows division of a Drosophila neural stem cell, the large cell shown in the center. Smaller progeny from previous cell divisions surrounds it. The mechanical cycle can be seen. Upward and downward movements of the stem cell and surrounding cell membranes occur immediately before division occurs.
