Images of excitons in momentum-space (IMAGE)
Caption
Images in momentum-space of the electrons and holes constituting excitons. The red clusters represent electrons, with the top image showing exciton-bound, energized electrons, and the bottom image showing their corresponding holes (circled), surrounded by electrons that are not energized. The energy-momentum-space is mapped by measuring the angles and speeds of the electrons as they are ejected from the material by the beam of light within the extreme ultraviolet range.
