With the rise in the number of fake medications, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is requiring by 2023 that medications have unit-level traceability through the Drug Supply Chain Security Act. Purdue University biomedical engineers have developed new cyberphysical watermarks that allow people to check the medication’s authenticity with a smartphone.
