This picture shows the structure of Respiratory Complex I. Mutation in the section that is located in the inner membrane that block proton pumps will cause acidification of the cell in the case of metabolic disturbance. This can lead to a shutdown of protein-mediated process and protein synthesis, which in turn make the cell tolerant for certain antimicrobials.
