The map above shows the tracks of Hurricane Iota and Hurricane Eta overlaid on a map of sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico as measured on November 15, 2020. Eta and Iota were two of the most powerful storms to hit Central America in decades, dropping more than 24 inches (609 mm) of rainfall over a small part of Nicaragua and more than 12 inches (305 mm) in many parts of Honduras, Guatemala and Belize.
