Vacuoles in the apical caulonemal cell from the moss Physcomitrium patens (IMAGE)
Caption
The image of vacuoles in the apical caulonemal cell from the moss Physcomitrium patens. Vacuoles (here shown in orange hues) have been stained with fluorescent Carboxy-DCFDA, which accumulated in the vacuolar lumen. In the basal region of the cell (left-hand side) vacuoles are large and occupy the majority of the cell volume, while in the apical tip-growing region (right-hand side) vacuoles are fragmented and tubulated. All other cellular organelles were not fluorescently labeled so they appear as black space. The image is a maximum projection of the deconvolved Z-stack.
