The red material is radioactive tank waste from an underground storage tank at Hanford being illuminated by the molten glass below as it is vitrified into a solid glass for the first time in continuous process, very similar to the Direct Feel Low-Activity Waste system that will be used at Hanford, a former weapons production site in Washington State.
