Uncrested vs. Crested Doves (IMAGE)
Caption
Uncrested (left) and crested (right) ringneck doves. A new study shows that head crests of reversed feathers in ringneck doves are associated with a mutation in the EphB2 gene. The same gene -- but a different mutation -- is associated with crest formation in the domestic rock pigeon.
