Low Latitudes (IMAGE)
Caption
Attenuation of light, particularly during winter, constrains the depth and latitudinal distribution of one of the largest groups of reef corals (genus Acropora/Isopora) and helps explain high equatorial diversity for the group. Here at low latitudes, consistently high levels of light at depth support a diverse coral fauna which extends far deeper than is found at higher latitudes.
