GPM Image of Franklin (IMAGE) NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Caption The GPM core observatory satellite showed that rain was falling at a rate of over 3.1 inches (79 mm) per hour southeast of Franklin's center of circulation. Rainfall in intense bands, west of the center were dropping rain at a rate of greater than 2.8 inches (71 mm) per hour where cloud tops reached altitudes above 9.5 miles (15.4 km).
